Book Description:

The poems and stories included in this anthology, written by various authors, tell of veterans outside of war, of how their sacrifice of service changed their lives long after the war was over. Although some of the messages of the sacrifices of war are sadly timeless, they speak of unsung heroes, and I say unsung because nothing we could ever do for them would ever be enough to say thank you for all they gave. With that said, with these poems and stories, we will give what we can. 100% of the profits made will go to charities for veterans.

To all who have served and to all of those who love them, we offer our undying gratitude because it is all we truly have to give you for your sacrifices, told and untold. So, we give what we can to honor you, to say thank you, and to, in some small way, give back. Although it could never be enough, a million thanks or a million dollars, we pray we can help some of the many who have given so much, so selflessly, and then suffered even as they fought another battle, the battle to go on…

Broken Captive by B.K. Walker

Jenna Mathews lived a life of pain. With an abusive mother and a father that doesn't have time, isolation swamps her. Pain envelops her daily and her only release...self mutilation. When Jeff Simon reaches out to her, showing her what love truly is, Jenna feels hope for the first time in her life. Hope falls short though when Jeff is tragically ripped from her life, and she turns back to doing the only thing that gives her an escape.

What the future has in store...is beyond what she could have ever fathomed.

Short story of fiction, pain, love and healing.

Excerpt:

I watched the blood run in crimson rivulets as I pulled the blade across my arm. Slowly the pain escaped as the tip of the razor pierced my skin. My mind slipped into a euphoria and the pain was completely gone after dragging the razor down my arm, making a long incision. I let out a deep sigh, like a junkie that just received their latest fix, staring as the blood flowed down my arm like a majestic river, a smile spreading across my face. This was better than any high a junkie could get.
After the blood formed tiny mounds from clotting, I walked to the lake to wash away the evidence. It was cold this morning, a lot colder than it has been. Living right on the lake always brought colder weather than other places close in the area. It was horrible for someone that hated the cold. Today I didn’t mind the cold though, it helped me clear my head. Cutting was just one of my problems, one that I hid very well. When my mind was stuck and I was nauseated with pain, I could always count on the razor to help the pain go away. When it was cold like this, it helped me back to reality much faster than when it was warmer outside.
When it was warm, it was like being wrapped in a blanket, all cozy in a bed. Many times I had fallen asleep after cutting myself when it was warm out, and when people are walking by and see you sleeping on a hill with blood on your arms, you tend to get funny looks. In this cold weather though, there was hardly anyone around.
The water was cold. There were dead fish floating in the water riding the waves about three feet away from me, some trapped on the thick green seaweed that embedded the shore. It smelled like dead fish too. The waves splashing against the shoreline was comforting. I had goose bumps now and was ready to start making my way home. My mother would soon be leaving for work and I could take a nap in peace.
